How Do Characters Work in Tower of Fantasy?

In Tower of Fantasy you do not pull for characters the way you would in Genshin Impact. Instead, you are technically pulling for weapons and getting their associated character as a skin. These skins are known as Simulacra. 

Why does this matter, and how will it effect you as a player? 

In short, it means that you can have any three weapons equipped at the same time, while your character can be either your original character OR a skin of any character / weapon / simulacra that you have unlocked through participating in the gacha. Further, unlike changing your character's gender--which is not possible--any player, regardless of gender, can wear any character / skin / simulacra that they have acquired.
